Events as a Speaker
Speaking at various summits, conferences, and seminars has been an incredible journey for Joel Amani Mafigi. It has allowed him to share his experiences as a refugee who changed perspectives, seeing vulnerability as value, pain as power, and challenges as opportunities. These events have given him a platform to advocate for important causes and engage with diverse audiences who are passionate about making a positive impact on the world.
One of the significant events Amani was invited to speak at was the HeForShe Men’s Conference on July 31st, 2021.
As a global movement, HeForShe partners with leaders committed to accelerating gender equality.
Being a panel speaker at this conference allowed him to emphasize the importance of gender equality and the role men play in achieving it.
Together with other HeForShe Champions, They shared the proven solutions and resources to promote a more equal world.
The Youth SDG Summit, held from September 22nd to 25th, 2021, was a remarkable opportunity Amani had to engage with young people, policymakers, and influencers from around the world.
This summit aimed to create sustainable solutions for a better future, incorporating the voices of youth and promoting inclusivity. Being part of the panel allowed him to advocate for the rights and empowerment of young people, particularly refugees like himself.
In April 2022, Amani spoke at the Migration Summit, which focused on entrepreneurship education programs for refugees and migrants.
The summit highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for self-employment and empowering individuals from refugee settlements in Uganda and Kenya, as well as migrants in the European Union.
It was inspiring to witness how entrepreneurship can transform lives and create a sense of hope for those displaced from their homes.
One of the most memorable events was speaking at the Copper Belt University School of Medicine in Zambia in July 2022, where the summit discussed “Building Back Better Africa.”
Addressing the topic allowed Amani to emphasize the importance of inclusive development and empowering marginalized communities, including refugees, in rebuilding a better Africa for all.
The Refugee and Migrant Education Network Conference in Rome, from September 25th to 29th, 2022, was a turning point for Amani. At this conference, leaders came together to support UNHCR’s goal 15by30, which aims to provide refugees with access to higher education and a better future.
Interacting with influential figures like Pope Francis, University of the People President and Founder Mr. Shai Reshef, and others, allowed Amani to witness first-hand the dedication and impact of those working to transform refugee education positively.
In November 2022, Amani was honored to be part of Peter Drucker’s Purpose Summit, where discussions revolved around “New Realities for Management,” “Why Social Entrepreneurship,” and “Social responsibility as a global practice for generation Z.”
